4 ideas to help you find time to exercise

So, your gorgeous bundle has arrived into the world. You’re finally finding your feet with sleep times, feed times and bath times and your now feeling ready to have some ‘me’ time and get back into a bit of exercise. BUT, how on earth are you going to fit this ‘me’ time in with everything else that’s going on.

Time is one of the biggest barriers when it comes to getting fit and healthy. And the thought of getting up early before anyone has stirred is not even an option after a broken night’s sleep of feeding and trying to get kids back to sleep. So to help find some extra time during the day to get out and exercise, we have created 4 helpful ideas…

Tag team with a friend

Find a friend who has kids and is also on the war path to a healthier fitter lifestyle. Arrange to catch up 2 or 3 times a week and take turns in going for a walk or run around the neighborhood. 1 goes for a run while the other looks after the kids and then swap over while the other goes for their walk/run.

Negotiate a time with hubby.

Tell the hubby that from 5.30pm (or anytime that works around his hours) is your time to get out for 30mins exercise. I always make sure I’m ready to go when he gets home from work, so he can’t complain. During the summer months he often takes the kids for a walk and gets the kids to all cheer me on while I run around the neighborhood. It’s a win win for everyone.

Exercise at night

Depending on where you live and when your preferred exercise time is, why not try night walking/running. Invest in a good headlamp and go for it. It’s actually quite fun and exhilarating. Plus you always feel like you’re moving so fast.

Use your lunch break to exercise

Depending on where you work and what facilities they have, take your exercise gear to work and pop out for 30mins exercise at lunchtime. Or if can arrange for someone to pick the kids up from school/daycare one day a week, trying running straight after work. This is my preferred time to run…It always nice to get some fresh air after a day at the office.

Remember every mum goes through a time in their life where they just need some ‘me’ time. Its super important that we don’t ignore this feeling, so make sure that you find a way to get out there and get the endorphins pumping. You’ll feel so much better after a bit of fresh air and sweat.
